Hair follicle
The system in which it protects deeper tissue from mechanical, chemical, bacteria, thermal, and Ultraviolet radiation.
The integumentary system
The muscle that raises the hair when you are frightened, cold or stimulates your hearing.
Arrector pili
The deepest tissue mostly made of fat.
Hypodermis
The pigment of your skin.
Melanin
Cells that create pigment. It is dependent on the environment or genetics.
Melanocytes
The most superficial layer of skin.
Epidermis
Gland that produces oil. If infected, it causes acne. It is more active during puberty.
Sebaceous gland
The middle layer of skin.
Dermis
Gland that produces sweat. Sweat releases heat or wastes, and maintains homeostasis. It contains urea, which is also found in urine.
Sudoriferous gland
Material found in skin, hair, and nails.
Keratin
A cluster of boils.
Carbuncles
Condition that inflammates the skin.
Dermatitis
Infection that is made of clusters of blisters found around the lips.
Cold sores
Infection associated with fungus in between toes.
Athlete’s foot
