Vocabulary Flashcards
when a cell is not dividing, it’s DNA is combined with protein and forms a loose network of bumpy threads
Chromatin
A dense central body in the most cells containing the genetic material of the cell.
Nucleus
when a cell is dividing to form two daughter cells, the chromatin threads coil and condense to form dense, rod body like
Chromosomes
The nucleus is bonded by a double membrane barrier
Nuclear membrane
tiny, finger like extensions of the plasma membrane that project from an exposed cell surface. They increase the cells surface area tremendously and so are usually found on the surface of cells active in absorption.
Microvilli
The substance of a cell other than that of the nucleus
Cytoplasm
semitransparent fluid that suspends the other elements
Cytosol
The rod like cytoplasmic organelles responsible for ATP generation
Mitochondria
Cytoplasmic organelles at which proteins are synthesis
Ribosomes
A membranous network of tubular or saclike channels in the cytoplasm of the cell
Endoplasmic recticulum
Organelles that originate from the Golgi apparatus and contain string digestive enzymes
Lysosomes
A minute body found near the nucleus of the cell composed of microtubles; active in cell divison
Centrioles
Units of hereditary located in chromatin; transmits hereditary information
Gene
Non living material in connective tissue consisting of ground substance and fibers that separate the living cells
Extracellular matrix
A cord of dense fibrous tissues attaching a muscle to a bone
Tendons
