Genocide
The deliberate killing of a large group people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation.
Social control
Refers to societal and political mechanisms or processes that regulate individual and group behavior in an attempt to gain conformity/compliance to the rules of a given society, state, or social group

The sociological and psychological study of the causes, development, and control of crime

The authority to regulate conduct
Bail
Release of a defendant from custody on the promise by the accused. Often secured with a monetary bond, that the defendant will return to court at the necessary times to address the charges.
Preliminary Hearing
Hearing before a judge to determine if a person charged with a felony should be tried for the crime charged based on substantial evidence.
Prima Facie Case
Referring to a lawsuit or criminal prosecution in which the evidence before trail is sufficient to prove the case unless there is substantial contradictory evidence presented at trial
Recidivism
A behavior of a repeat or habitual criminal. A measurement of the rate at which offenders commit other crimes, either by arrest or conviction baselines, after being released from incarceration.
