Diluent
Fluid used to dissolve a powdered drug
Concentration
(In regard to drugs) how much drug (solute) is dissolved in a specific amount of fluid (solvent).
EX: 2g/3mL ~ there are 2 grams of drug (dissolved) in every 3 mL of fluid
Frequency
How often a dose of drug will be given or how often an IV bag will be hung
Infusion time
The amount of time it takes for a specific amount of fluid to flow into the patient
IVPB
Intravenous piggy-back.
Microdrip
Refers to IV tubing with a drop factor of 60 (60gtts/mL)
Reconstitution
Dissolving a powdered form of a drug into fluid so that it may be injected
Solution
Liquid preparation in which one or more substances are completely dissolved.
Solute
The substance which is dissolved (the drug)

5% dextrose in water
D5NS
5% dextrose in normal saline
NS
Normal saline (a 0.9% saline solution)

Half the saline concentration of normal saline (0.45% saline solution)
