American Montage
Editing sequence whose function is to show the passage of time
Accelerated Montage
shots crosscut between two or more lines of action that are increasingly shorter in temporal length, implying climax
Asynchronous Sound
Sound which does not match the image in the frame
Axial cut
Camera suddenly moves closer to or further alway from it’s subject, along the same axis
Cast light
Light which originates from a physical source
Continuity Editing
Goal is to reduce the perception of editing for the audience by reflecting in edits what seems most natural
Crosscut
Two or more lines of action are cut alternately between those lines of action in order to create the perception of simultaneous action
Diegetic sound
Sound which is in that of the narrative
Flash cut
Brief shot which is intercut between two shots,
Jump cut
Creates a temporal discontinuity of action by leaving out a few several frames from a single action
Lap dissolve
Moves from a fade out to a fade in with a brief period of an overlapping image
Leitmotif
Recurring element which carries narrative meaning
Lightning mix
One line of action starts in one time and place and is completed in another time and/or place
Sound bridge
Diegetic sound element which connects two scenes or two shots together by leading into or out of two shots
Subjective camera
Shots which seek to show the inner state of the character as he/she views the external world
