When you pluck a word from another language and plop it into ours, that is a loan word. This is a linguistics term. Linguistics, by the way, is the systematic study of how languages work.

vis-a-vis
A loan word from French, this just means “in regards to,” as in, My mother is upset with me vis-a-vis my grades. Or, My boss wants to chat with me vis-a-vis my teaching assignment for next year.
quid pro quo
This just means, in Latin, “this for that.” As in, I’ll give you A in this class if you wash my car every week. That would be a quid pro quo, an exchange between two people of things of value. Almost time there is a political corruption scandal, it involves a quid pro quo, as in, The mayor gave the multi-million dollar development contract to Mr. Developer in exchange for a $200,000 donation to his campaign fund.

ubiquitous
Just means that you see it everywhere, as in, smartphones are ubiquitous in the modern age. Or, the ubiquity of smartphone use by teenagers has raised some concerns among mental health experts.
