Photosynthesis
the process of green plants making food (sugar) by using sunlight and water.
Chlorophyll
green food making material in plants.
Energy
The ability to do work.
Carbon Dioxide
A gas in the atmosphere that is important for plants to grow.
Stem
holds up the plan and transports water and nutrients
Leaves
Where sunlight is collected to make food for the plant.
Root Hairs
Very thin roots used to help soak up water and nutients.
Germinate
when a plant begins to grow from a seed.
Petal
color leaves around the seed making part of a plant.
Ovary
The female part of the plant that contains seeds (ovules).
Ovule
small bead like parts of flowers that are beginning of seeds
Pollen
powder like dust on the stamen needed to make seeds (pollen).
Stamen
Stalks that surround the pistol and that makes pollen.
Pistil
Part of the flower that contains seed (ovules)
Fertilization
when pollen grains land on the pistil and a pollen tube starts to grow.
Seed
is a baby plant wrapped in a very special package. The package has a hard shell that protects the tiny plant. (Parts of a seed: Seed Coat, Embryo, and Stored Food)
Flower
come in many sizes, shapes, and colors. They look pretty. Some smell good. Flowers make seeds so there will be more plants.
