Cognitive dissonance
The state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.
Asymptote
A line that continually approaches a given corner but doesn’t meet it at any finite distance.

Conducive to success; favorable
Cavernous
Like a cavern in size, shape, or atmosphere.
Chagrined
Distress or embarrassment at having failed or been humiliated.
Lynx
A wild cat with yellowish-brown fur (sometimes spotted), a short tail, and tufted ears, found chiefly in the northern latitudes of North America and Eurasia.
Sacrosanct
Regarded as too important or valuable to be interfered with.
Mnemonic: The sacred robe stank but it was too important and special to risk washing it.
Rhetorical
Asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.

A girl with mischievous or boyish charm
Solar plexus
A complex of ganglia and radiating nerves of the sympathetic system at the pit of the stomach.
Lair
A wild animal’s resting place, especially one that is well hidden.
Wraith
A ghost or ghostlike image of someone, esp one seen shortly before or after their death.
Absconded
Leave hurriedly and secretly, typically to avoid detection of or arrest for an unlawful action such as theft.
Repatriated
Send (someone) back to their own country.
