It is a zone of semidesert south of the Sahara, it has short grasses and small bushes.

It is a vegetation zone of tall grasses and scattered trees. It has a long rainy season.
What is the Niger River?
It is the longest river in West Africa, which was kind of a trading highway in early times.
What does extended family mean?
A family that includes grandparents,aunts, uncles and other relatives who all live nearby or in the same household.
What does Nuclear Family mean?
Family group consisting of parents and their children.
What is Ghana?
It is the first medieval civilization and empire in West Africa.
What does Matrilineal mean?
A family line traced through the mother.
What was the Trans-Saharan Trade?
It was trade between peoples north and south of the Sahara.

The capital of Ghana

The 2nd West African empire that took over Ghana. Became a major crossroads of the Islamic world.

The 3rd and largest of the West African empires.
What were Tuaregs?
They were desert nomads and pirates of the Sahara.
What is a Dromedary?
An Arabian one-humped camel.

Location of the gold mines in southern West Africa.
