Religious Pluralism
The belief that all religions are the same in the end and all lead to the same god
Total depravity
The belief that sin has completely corrupted and ruined our human nature
Ecumenical
Involving multiple different religions
Meta-narrative
A big story that seeks to answer life’s ultimate questions of purpose
Steward
One who takes care of things or resources of another person
Transcendentalism
Believing that spiritual truth is found through personal intuition, and not the doctrines of a church or religion
Allegorical interpretation
A method of interpreting the Bible that spiritualizes the text in an effort to uncover a supposedly hidden meaning
Inspiration
God communicating the text of scripture to the biblical writers so that it contains his words, not theirs
Sufficiency of Scripture
Scripture contains all the information a person needs to live a life of godliness and relationship with God

Church council in A.D. 325 where the canon of scripture was first recognized in its plenary form

Basic statement of Christian belief authored in A.D. 710
Pantheism
The belief that god is in and a part of everything
Fiat creationism
The belief in a literal, six day creation of the cosmos by God, as recorded in Genesis
Theistic evolution
The belief that God used the long process of evolutionary ages to create the cosmos
Inerrancy
The belief that the Bible contained no errors in its original manuscripts
Bema judgment
Time of reward for the church where Christian service on Earth is rewarded in heaven
Great White Throne Judgement
Future time of judgment for unbelievers where there lives will be judged by Christ
Josephus
1st century Jewish scholar who recorded information about the Jews and the church of his time
Theological liberalism
A belief system that does not view the scriptures as inerrant and undercuts sound Bible doctrine
Imago Dei
Latin for “the image of God”
Monotheism
A belief in one god
Polytheism
a belief in many gods
Atheism
The belief that there is no god
Deism
The belief that god exists, but he is distant from humanity and the reality of life on earth
Agnostic
The belief that we cannot know truth about God
Unitarian Universalism
The belief that every belief system is equally valid and all will go to be with God eventually
Pentateuch
The first five books of the Bible, all written by Moses
Apostasy
Falling away from the faith
Eternal Security
The idea that once a person is truly born again, they cannot ever lose their salvation
Baptism
A public acknowledgment that a person has decided to follow Christ
Body of Christ
Name given to the Church by Paul to illustrate how Christians should relate to each other
Congregationalism
The belief that a church should be ruled by the democratic vote of its members
Elder rule
The belief that a church should be ruled by a group of elders, whether elected or appointed
Angels
Intelligent creatures made by God to serve Him and carry out His will, who remain faithful to Him
Demons
Angels who chose to rebel against God with lucifer

Election
The doctrine that God chose certain people beforehand and appointed them to belief and faith
Holy
To be completely without sin
Sin
Rebellion against God where we choose our way instead of his way

Name given to the set of commandments given to Israel by God to govern their life with Him
Worship
The act of ascribing ultimate worth and priority to something
Salvation
Deliverance from the power, penalty, and presence of sin
Condemnation
A negative judgment or sentence
Repentance
A feeling of godly sorrow for sin and a deliberate turning away from it
Justice
What is right, fair, and deserved
