Vocabulary Flashcards
Components
Elements you can reuse across your designs. They help to create and manage consistent designs across projects.
It helps to make your designs more consistent and allows for changes to be made quickly.
You can create a component from layers, groups, and frames.
A component is the parent element of Instances
Instances
A single occurrence of the master component. (When the master component is updated all of the instances are updated automatically)
When the ______ component is updated all of the instances are updated automatically.
master
another term for instances
child
another term for components
parent
Overrides
Changes made to an instance’s properties (overrides change properties of instances)
Overrides allow designers to create variations on the original component.
If changes are made to the master component, the overrides on our ________ remain unchanged.
instance
What can overrides edit?
Text properties, fill, stroke, effects, bounding box
What if Figma?
It’s a vector design tool that runs on the browser. You can use Figma to brainstorm ideas, iterate on designs, create prototypes, and get feedback at any stage of the creative process.
What is Auto Layout?
Let’s you create dynamic frames that respond to that content.
- Automatically resize as their text changes
- Menus & list can be quickly reordered
What is Automagical?
When you add a few auto-layout to a few elements
Resizing?
Resizing options let you control how an object should behave when its parents or children change size.
Fill container
Makes an object stretch to fill its container.
*It can only be set on children of an auto-layout frame)
Hug contents
Makes a parent fit to the size of its children
Fixed
An object won’t resize w/ its parent or children
Distribution
Controls the spacing between objects within an auto-layout frame.
What are the two options for distribution?
Packed or Space-between
What is packed distribution?
Makes objects stick together
What is space between distribution?
Makes them stay apart
Alignment
Controls where those items are stacked.
*Items can be aligned to one side, the center, or a specific corner
What are horizontal constraints?
Horizontal constraints define how an object behaves, as you resize the Frame along the x axis
Horizontal constraint - Left
Maintains the object’s position, relative to the left side of the frame
Horizontal constraint - Right
Maintains the object’s position, relative to the right side of the frame
Horizontal constraint- Left and Right
Maintains the object’s size and position relative to both sides of the frame. This may cause objects to grow or shrink along the x-axis when resized
Horizontal constraint- Center
Maintains the object’s position, relative to the horizontal center of the frame
Horizontal constraint- Scale
Will define the object’s size and position as a percentage of the Frame’s dimensions. It will then maintain those proportions as you resize it.
What a vertical constraints?
Vertical constraints define how an object behaves, as you resize the Frame along the y axis.
What is a flow?
The network of frames and connections in a single page.
