What is the AMA? When was it founded?
The American Medical Association. It was founded in 1846.
What is Ethical Distress?
Ethical Distress is when you, the Agent, has one course of action, but has something in the way of reaching the outcome.
What is Misfeasance?
Misfeasance is when a healthcare provider does something lawfully but improperly.
What is Malfeasance?
Malfeasance is when a healthcare provider does something unlawfully and intentionally causing harm.
Describe arterial blood.
Bright red in color, fast loss of blood, harder to control.
Describe venous blood.
Dark purple in color, slow loss of blood, easier to control.
What is Beneficence?
Beneficence is acting for the benefit of the patient and supports ethical and moral rules to protect and defend the rights of patients.
What is OSHA? What are they concerned with?
OSHA is Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They are concerned with the safety of the workplace.
What is HIPAA? What are they concerned with?
HIPAA is Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. They are concerned with the protection of patients privacy and medical records.
What is Negligence?
Negligence is improper or unskilled treatment of a patient.
What is implied and informed consent?
Implied consent is when consent is given based on something like if the patient is unconscious or if the patient nods their head or in the case of phlebotomy, extends their arm. Informed consent is when the patient is told everything about a procedure and the potential risks and the patient agrees nonetheless.
What is Tort Law?
Portion of law concerned with compensating victims based on a breach of duty that resulted in damages or adverse health issues.
What are the 4 elements of contract?
The 4 elements are offer, acceptance, intention to create legal relationship, and consideration.
What is Nonfeasance?
Nonfeasance is the failure to perform a duty required by law.
What are Titles I and II of HIPAA?
Title I is the protection of health insurance for those who lose or change jobs.
Title II directs the US HHS to establish national standards for processing E-Healthcare transactions.
