a material used by an artist and often implies the technique of using that material. The plural is media. Also, the solvent which carries pigments in suspension in a paint.

a two-dimensional art technique that uses more than one medium, for example, a crayon and watercolor work

an ornamental strip that gives variety to the surface by creating light and shadow
modeling
a group of inanimate objects arranged to be painted or drawn; also, a painting or drawing of such an arrangement
still life
the distinctive characteristics contained in the works of art of a person, period of time or geographic location
style
the division between earth and sky, as seen by an observer.
horizon line
the representation of an object and space on a flat surface from the human eye
perspective
an imaginary point or points on the eye level toward which parallel lines recede and where they will eventually meet in perspective drawing and painting
vanishing points
the use of parallel lines to create shading. When lines are overlapped at angles to each other, the technique is called crosshatching
hatching
a style of 19th century French painting in which colors are systematically applied to canvas in small dots, producing a vibrant surface
pointilism
a thin transparent layer of paint; also a thinned mixture of solvent and paint
wash
an element of design that identifies natural and manufactured things as being red, yellow, blue, orange etc.
colour
any two colours that are located opposite each other on a colour wheel. When mixed together they will tend to subdue the intensities and produce a grayed hue. When placed side by side, they produce optical vibrations
complementary colours
the hues on one side of the colour wheel which contain blue and green

gouache
refers to an artistic style where the artist applies values and colors so they are even and flat, using a sharp, clean edge.
hard edge
the quality of a hue that serves as its naming mechanism. Six primary hues are typically recognized in the spectrum: violet, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red.
hue
a kind, thick cover of paint applied with a brush or knife.
