Vocab unit 1 Flashcards
Learn
Line
a one-dimensional figure that is a straight set of points that extends infinitely in both directions
Point
geometry, a point is a location in space that has no size, or dimension, and is represented by a dot
Plane
a flat surface that has no thickness or edges and extends infinitely in two
Line segment
a part of a straight line that has two distinct endpoints and includes every point on the line between those endpoints
Opposite rays
two rays that share an endpoint and extend in opposite directions
Ray
a line with one endpoint, or point of origin, that extends infinitely in one direction.
Angle
a figure formed by two rays or lines that share a common endpoint, called the vertex.
Acute angle
An angle that measures to be less than 45 but more than 0
Right angle
An angle that measures to be 90 that
Obtuse angle
Measures to be more than 90* but less than 180*
Straight angle
An angle that measures to be 180 degrees making a straight line
Vertex
the angle formed by two lines or rays that intersect at a point.
Postulate
a statement that is assumed to be true without proof based on basic geometric principles.
Collinear points
points that lie on the same straight line
Congruent segments
two figures or objects are congruent if they have the same shape and size, or if one has the same shape and size as the mirror image of the other.
Congruent angles
two or more angles that have the same measurement in degrees.
Reflexive property of congruence
The reflexive property of congruence states that any geometric shape is congruent to itself
Symmetric property of congruence
The symmetric property of congruence states that if one geometric figure is congruent to another, then the second figure is also congruent to the first.
Transitive property of congruence
The transitive property of congruence in geometry states that if two geometric shapes are congruent to a third shape, then the first two shapes are also congruent to each other
