Denomination
A distinct group within the Christian faith, with its own organisation and traditions
Monotheism
A religion which only believes in one god
Omnipotent
All powerful (quality of god)
Omnipresent
All present (quality of god)
Omniscient
All knowing (quality of god)
Omnibenevolent
All loving (quality of god)
Immanent
The idea that god is present and involved with life on earth and in the universe, a quality of god.
Transcendent
The idea that god is beyond and outside life on earth and the universe, a quality of god.
Impersonal
The idea that God has no personal characteristics, is unknowable and mysterious, more like an idea or force.
Personal
The idea that God is an individual or person with whom people are able to have a relationship with/feel close
Eternal
Without beginning or end
Judge
God is the Judge, he decides heaven or hell for humans
Perfect Good
The idea god is the perfect good and contains all the elements of good
Trinity
The belief that there are three people in one god, the father, son and Holy Spirit. They’re separate but also one being
Problem of evil
The idea of how can god exist if there’s evil in the world, surely he would get rid of evil if he is omnibenevolent and omnipotent.
Inconsistent triad
JL Mackie’s idea, how can there be evil, God being omnipotent and god being Omnibenevolent. There can only be two that are true.
Atheism/atheist
A person who doesn’t believe in god
Natural evil
Evil caused naturally eg natural disasters
Moral evil
Evil committed by humans eg murder, robbery
Theodicy
The counter argument to JL Mackie problem of evil, explains how god can exist yet there being evil
Soul making theodicy
Evil exists as it builds our soul, we need to understand evil so we can make the world a better place.
The fall
The start of genesis, Adam and Eve disobeying god due to temptation from snake, causing separation from Humans and God.
Fundamentalist/literalist
Christians who believe the statements in the bible are literally true and believe there are certain basic beliefs that are essential to the Christian faith.
Creationism
The idea that the story of the creation of the world is literally true.
Inerrant
Gods word is incapable of being wrong, providing support for fundamentalists/literalists views

Jesus is called the word of god because it’s similar to how our words explains ourselves, his words explain god
Logos
The word of god
Judgement
God makes judgement, there will also be a judgement day where all will be judged, sent to heaven/hell
Purgatory
The intermediate state where souls are cleansed in order to enter heaven
Heaven
A state of eternal happiness in the presence of god, the place of eternal peace ruled by god
Hell
The place of eternal suffering or the state of being without god
Embodied life after death
After death, you either have your body when you died or a new body
Disembodied life after death
After death, you don’t have a physical body
Parable of sheep and goats
God will come and divide people into two groups, one will go to heaven because they have helped and the other to hell because they haven’t helped
Salvation
Saving soul, deliverance from sin and admission to heaven brought about by Jesus
Salvation by merit
Christians can achieve salvation through their own actions
Salvation by grace
Christians can achieve salvation by the love of god eg Jesus died for humanity’s sins
Salvation by law
Christians can achieve salvation by following gods laws and commands
Salvation by spirit
Christian’s can achieve salvation by being guided by the Holy Spirit. This could helo them to follow gods laws or live a good life, and so achieve salvation.

Jesus having the last supper with his disciples, Judas betrays Jesus
Garden of gethsemane
Jesus is arrested in the garden of gethsemane, also where he accepts that he needs to sacrifice himself.

Good Friday
The day Jesus was crucified, considered good because it allowed humans to reach heaven, he atoned for our sins.
Sin
- Any action or thought that separates us from god
- Behaviour which is against gods laws and wishes as well as principles of morality
Original sin
Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit
Repentance
Admitting guilt for a sin or to try to do something to reverse the effect.
Easter Sunday
When Jesus rose from the dead
Resurrection
- Rising from the dead
- Jesus rising from the dead on Easter Sunday, an event recorded in all four gospels and the central belief of Christianity
Ascension
The event 40 days after the resurrection, when Jesus returned to god, the father in heaven
Atonement
Restoring the relationship between people and god through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus
