vocab/terms to know Flashcards
Ataxia:
Ataxia: lack of coordination during voluntary movement (appears as clumsiness, inaccuracy, instability) movements are not smooth/jerky
Chorea:
Chorea: Brief purposeless involuntary movement of distal extremities and face. Over activity in Basal Ganglia
Dyskinesias:
Dyskinesias: involuntary non repetitive movement affecting distal proximal and axial musculature in varying combinations. Associated with basal ganglia disorders.
Dystonia:
Dystonia: sustained abnormal posture and disruptions of ongoing movements resulting from alterations of muscle tone
Hemiballismus:
Hemiballismus: involuntary flinging motions of the extremities, often violent and wide amplitudes of motion. Continuous and random and involve proximal or distal muscles on one side of the body
Myoclonus
Myoclonus: brief rapid contraction of muscle or group of muscles
Tics
Tics: brief rapid involuntary movements often resembling fragments of normal behavior. Repetitive but not rhythmic
Tremor
Tremor: rhythmic alternating oscillatory movements produced by repetitive patterns of mm contraction and relaxation. Classified by occurrence either while resting (resting tremor) or during activity (Action or intention tremor)
