Complementary color

lights illuminating the audience

All lights dark

lights hung at shin level for dance

Curtains going horizontally hiding lights on the ceiling
Barn Door
Flaps on lights that shape the light

Legs/borders/flats blocking the audience’s view of anything you don’t want them to see
