Non-Aligned Movement
During the Non Aligned movement states who were participating in the movement would not pick a side for the Cold War, but instead use it to their advantage for economic and political support. By doing this, the Soviet Union and US would give aid to rivaling sides of wars but it would benefit the Non-Aligned countries that stayed independent.
Kwame Nkrumah
Kwame Nkrumah was the first president of the newly formed state of Ghana and contributed to African nationalism and independence. Kwame Nkrumah fought for African independence from Britain in 1957 and ended the past white colonialism.
Proxy Wars (Korean War)
In the Proxy Wars, two smaller countries would stand in for significant superpowers such as the UN and the Soviet Union. An example of this was the Korean War, where North Korea invaded South Korea. The Soviet Union gave military resources to North Korea, making the UN have no choice but to support South Korea. The Korean and Vietnam wars were considered proxy wars because although countries were going to war over local issues, they were being backed up by significant superpowers such as the US and USSR. In these proxy wars, the US and USSR would send resources and militaries to back up the countries, making it a more significant scale.
Communist Revolution in China
The rise of Communism in China was due to the support towards communism after they are seen as successful after taking the japanese out of china and by gaining support from the lower class. This caused a rise and turn to communism in China.
Great Leap Forward
In 1950 China went through their plan of land reform called the “Great Leap Forward”. This plan was used to increase chinas economy through collectivization of land and further industrialization.
Communist Revolution for Vietnamese Independence
In the 20th century, Ho Chi Minh battled for Vietnamese independence against French colonialism. This revolution was called the August Revolution and was against Japanese and french rule over Vietnam.
Decolonization
The decolonization movement that happened was the undoing of previously colonized and imperialized countries. This was done through colonized countries revolts to end colonialism.
Indian National Congress
India fought the British East India Company rule by using the British schooling offered to them and taking advantage of it by learning about enlightenment ideas, thus forming a rebellion. This new rebellion was shown through civilian rebellions and mutinies by people affected by the British.
Muslim League
The muslim league was a league established in british india that was a political group fighting for a muslim nation.
Partition of India
The partition of India was the agreement that separated India and Pakistan into two separate regions. This partition was made due to ethnic and religious conflict that was happening between Muslims and Islam in Pakistan and India.
Creation of Israel
After the decline of the ottoman empire, the british assumed they would have control of the land that became israel but that land was also promised to the arab nations surrounding it. This led to conflict and a decision that the land would be jewish territory, heading to the creation of israel.
Metropole
The metropole is the land that is a home territory for a land with multiple territories. An example of this would be the french, spanish, portuguese, and british.
Mohandas Gandhi
Ghandi was the leader of the indian independence movement which was a nonviolent resistance. This movement started a campaign of civil disobedience which encouraged people to break laws in order to show the injustice of british imperialism.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
MLK was a prominent african american civil rights leader that fought against racial injustice and segregation. Efforts from MLK and civil rights leaders made the civil rights movement successful and brought change.
Nelson Mandela
Nelson mandela was a civil rights leader who fought for equality and helped end south africa’s system of apartheid. Mandela fought for freedom and was the first back president of south africa.
