Prefatory- The prefatory essay was unhelpful.
Adjective. A piece of writing that comes before the preface to clarify aspects of the written work. It is essentially referring to the introduction to the introduction.
Urbanization- Overtime, the urbanization of the countryside led to crowding.
Noun. The process of making an area into a populated city or modern place usually through population increase.
Manifesto- The manifesto contradicted his previous ideas.
Noun. A written work that publically declares or expresses the author’s viewpoints.
Abjure- I have decided to abjure that idea.
Verb. To solemnly renounce a belief, cause, or claim by oath.
Culminates- All of this learning culminates when we take our test.
Verb. Brings to the highest extent/development; reaches a climax.
Transcendentalism- I felt that his ideas bordered more on transcendentalism.
Noun. A philosophical movement that started in the 1830s with the belief that the most important reality is what is sensed or what is intuitive, rather than what is thought such as scientific knowledge. Also, the belief that the human being can reach a higher intellect.
Tenets- The tenets of faith can empower a person.
Noun. One of the main factors or principles of a belief system.
Romanticism- Romanticism promoted environmental awareness.
Noun. The belief and time period that science and progress often hurt nature. It emphasizes the importance of being in touch with oneself. Romantics often value the aesthetically and emotionally pleasing aspects of life.
Egalitarianism- Countries should adopt a sense of egalitarianism.
Noun. The doctrine that emphasizes equality and freedom for all people.
Undifferentiated- The undifferentiated forms of the plant species are now being documented.
Adjective. Cannot be separated, uniform, the same.
Aesthetic- The aesthetic quality of the painting has increased the artist’s popularity.
Adjective. Having to do with beauty or something visually or emotionally pleasing.
Victorian Era- The ideals were reminiscent of the Victorian Era.
Noun. The period of time during which Queen Victoria reigned in England (1837-1901). Propriety, morals, and expectations were very strict, and social status was very important.
