First Type of idioms: Similes
Similes: Expression comparing two things using “like” and “as”
مثل سیبی که از وسط دو نیم کرده باشند، کاملا شبیه به هم

Second Type of idioms: Metaphors
…using a word/phrase
Saying something is something else
Ex: He is not the sharpest tool in the shed.
= He is not very clever/intelligent
Third Type of idioms: binomials
Where two words are joined by a preposition, usually “and”
Fish and chips
Black and white
Calm and collected = very calm
Such as Sherlock Holmes

Fourth Type of idioms: Euphemisms
Used to avoid offending people or avoid strong words or avoid saying words your are uncomfortable with, or if you want to be polite and diplomatic
Ex: Describe a boss who is fat, short, old

She’s getting on a bit:

Fifth Type of idioms:
Sayings and proverbs
Tend to have a moral message, or a warning or some kind of advice
Nothing ventured nothing gained:
If you don’t try or take risks, you won’t succeed

For describing people beliefs
