Archaeologist:
Someone who investigates the past by digging up objects left by previous civilisations.
Chronological Order:
The order in which events happen, from the earliest to the most recent.
Evidence:
Information found within a source that proves or disproves something.
Stratigraphy:
The order of layers of archaeological remains under the earth, with layers further from the surface being older.
Civilisation:
The society, culture, and way of life of a particular area/time or group of people.
Scribe:
Person who did all the writing in Ancient Egypt. Scribes used paper called papyrus, which was made from reeds.
Pharaoh:
A ruler in Ancient Egypt
Confucianism:
A Chinese philosophy and belief system based on the teachings of Confucius that stressed the importance of service to your superiors and a rigid social order.
Buddhism:
A wide spread Asian philosophy or religion, founded by Siddartha Gautama. This religion became one of the most prominent religions in Ancient China.
Dynasty:
Period of time during which one family controls government.
Dao/Tao:
“The way”- relates to a natural force and a way of living in harmony with it. Its followers are Daoists/Taoists.
Yin and Yang:
Two natural forces that must be in balance to maintain harmony in the universe.
Silk Road:
A network of trading routes that connected China with other civilisations of the ancient world through trade, the sharing of beliefs, ideas and technologies.
