Weathering
The process by which rock or soil is broken down.
Erosion
The moving of weathered rock or sediments from the original location.
Deposition
The process by which eroded rock, soil, or other earth materials are laid down in new places
Meander
Broad curves in mature and old rivers
Oxbow lake
A curved lake formed at a former oxbow where the main stream of the river has cut across the narrow end and no longer flows around the loop of the bend.
Delta
Wetlands that form as rivers empty their water and sediment into another body of water
Alluvial fan
A triangle-shaped deposit of gravel, sand, and even smaller pieces of sediment, such as silt.
Floodplain
A generally flat area of land next to a river or stream.
Glacier
A huge mass of ice that moves slowly over land.
Glacial drift
Applied to all rock material (clay, silt, sand, gravel, boulders) transported by a glacier and deposited directly by or from the ice.
Cirque
Circle shaped basin with precipitous walls, at the head of a glacial valley.
Horn
Any sort of exrescence from an animal.
Arete
A thin, crest of rock left after two adjacent glaciers have worn a steep ridge into the rock.
Moraine
Material left behind by a moving glacier.

Depression in a glacial outwash drift made by the melting of a detached mass of glacial ice
