Vocab And Definitions Flashcards
Diffusion
Is the passive net movement of a substance’s from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration.
Facilitated Diffusion
Is the passive movement of molecules moving from an area of high concentration to low concertation through a membrane bound protein such as a protein channel or carrier protein. These proteins are specific to the molecule they transport. Molecules that are too large ( glucose) or too charged ( ions) to cross freely can cross the plasma membrane via facilitated diffusion.
Osmosis
Is the passive net movement of water molecules from a region of high concentration ( of water) to a region of low concentration ( of water) across a semi permeable membrane.
