Context
The external factors that shape how texts are produced and received.
Text producer
The person or people who create a written or spoken text.
Text receiver
The person or people who interpret a written or spoken text through reading or listening to it.
Text type
What kind of text it is:
- Advertisement (print/moving)
- Memoir
- Journal
- Blog
- Spoken narrative
- Book
Mode
The physical channel of communication - speech or writing.
Blended mode
A text containing elements of both speech and writing.
Audience
Who the text is for.
Implied reader
A constructed image of an idealised reader.
Actual reader
Any person or groups of people who engage with and interpret a text.
Purpose
Reasons why the text was written.
Primary Purpose
Main and most easily recognisable purpose.
Secondary Purpose
An additional , perhaps more subtle purpose.
Multi-purpose text
A text that clearly has more than one purpose.
