Antagonist
The force actively opposing the protagonist.

A character who undergoes significant inner change

The incident that introduces the main character which begins to introduce the conflict
Falling Action
Is after the climax and cleans up loose ends and the narrative

A character that is 2D or uncomplicated and does not go through very much character development
Foil Character
A character that has a contrasting personality or traits

A person that depicts the plot

A character that is complex and undergoes much character development

When author uses the pronoun “I”. Speaking through the protagonist’s eyes and mouth

When the narrative jumps back to an early time

Clues that hint at a later event
Irony
A contrast between expectation and reality
Situational Irony
Contradiction between what you expect to happen and what actually happened
Dramatic Irony
The reader knows something important but the characters don’t know it

The author uses the pronoun “Them and they”

You know everything about one person. Author uses “Them and They”
Third Person Omniscient Narration
You are all knowing about everything. The author uses “them and they”

Is any event that happens before the main action of the narrative

The opposite of a word
Ex) sad is happy
Autobiography
A book about someone’s life and is written by that person
Bias
Prejudice for or against one thing often seeming unfair
Biography
A book about someone’s life written by someone else
Context
The words surrounding the a word which impacts the setting or meaning of said word
Dialogue
Talking in books or play
Fable
Short piece of narrative that exemplifies a moral of human behaviour
Figurative Language
Is phrasing that goes beyond the literal meaning of words to get the point across
Legend
A traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical be is not authenticated
Literal Meaning
Taking words as they are without metaphor etc.
Mood
The atmosphere created by the setting, attitude, and descriptions
