Plantation
A very large farm
Indentured Servant:
Someone who is in debt or close to debt who signs a contract agreeing to work for a certain amount of years in exchange for transportation. Once they arrive, they get food and shelter, and after their time is up, freedom
Slavery:
Someone who is taken from Africa in exchange for rum and guns and forced to come to the colonies to work for life with no pay and no freedom. A person who is the property of someone else. They have no rights and are not considered human
cash crop
: A crop that is grown to be sold or traded
Subsistence Farming:
Growing enough food to feed yourself and your family
Mercantilism:
The theory that a nation’s power depends on its wealth
Navigation Acts:
A set of rules that were made to control trade between England and its countries
Triangular Trade
a system of trading used to get around the trade restrictions and to get products that weren’t available in Britain
Middle Passage
The journey that kidnapped Africans took across the Atlantic Ocean to the new world

an act that granted all citizens certain rights

Britain’s law making body. They must approve of the actions of the Monarchs

a charter of English liberties granted to English nobles by King John
in 1215
Mayflower Compact
an agreement by those (Puritans) on the Mayflower to make and obey the laws of their colony

The first American constitution of plan on government (representative government)
Treaty of Paris
the treaty that ended the French and Indian war, and gave British the land in North America that they were fighting over.
