Dyspnea
Difficult or labored breathing.
Bradypnea
Abnormally slow breathing.
Apneic
Temporary absence of breathing.
Malaise
A general sense of being unwell.
Tachypnea
Breathing that is abnormally rapid and often shallow.
Epistaxis
Bleeding from the nose, either spontaneous or induced by nosepicking or trauma.
Febrile
A temporary increase in average body temperature of 98.6 F (37 C). A fever.
Parasthesia
Tingling or prickling, “pins-and-needles” sensation; usually temporary, often occurs in the arms, hands, legs, or feet.
Pleuritic
Inflammation of the tissues that line the lungs and chest cavity.
Orthopnea
Shortness of breath (dyspnea) that occurs when lying flat
Anisocoria
Condition characterized by an unequal size of the eyes’ pupils.
Eupnea
Normal, good, unlabored breathing, sometimes known as quiet breathing or resting respiratory rate.
Hypercapnia/Hypercarbia
Condition that occurs when there is too much carbon dioxide in the blood
Hyperpnea
Increased depth and rate of breathing.
Normotensive
Having a normal blood pressure.
Rales
Abnormal rattling sound heard when examining unhealthy lungs with a stethoscope.
Ronchi
Coarse rattling respiratory sounds.
Stridor
Harsh vibrating noise when breathing, caused by obstruction of the windpipe or larynx.
Inspiratory
Act of breathing in.
Pulsus Paradoxus
Fall of systolic blood pressure of >10 mmHg during the inspiratory phase. Loss of pulse during breathing in.
