Imaging
later location and distance placement of the individual sound sources within a sound stage
Perceived performance environment
the environment of the sound stage; the overall environment where the performance is heard as taking place
sound stage
the single area which the sound sources are perceived as being located; has an apparent physical size of width and depth
Sound object
refers to the sound material out of it’s original musical context
Sound event
the complete musical idea that is perceived by the states and values of the artistic elements of sound
IAP
arrivals of the same sound at each ear at a different SPL and are critical to determining localization for sounds at high frequencies
ITD
arrivals of the same sound at each ear at a different time; a sound that is not precisely in front or in back of the listener will arrive at each ear closest to the sound source before it reaches the furthest ear
Analytical listening
the evaluation of the content and the function of the sound in relation to the musical or communication context in which it exists
Critical listening
the evaluation of the characteristics of the sound source itself
Equivalence
the concept that all of the artistic elements of sound have and equal potential to carry the most significant musical information; any artistic element has the potential to be the central carrier of the musical idea at any moment in time; and element may also be a secondary element at any moment in time or at any level of perspective, and the importance of any element might shift at any moment
