Vocab Flashcards
Renal capsule
Part of the nephron where filtration actually occurs
Reabsorption loop
Proximal and distal tubules of the Henle group. This is a process that puts water, glucose and sodium and other nutrients back into the blood
Secretion
Distal and conv. And collecting ducts. The is the process in which substances are moved into the urine from blood into capillaries
Filtration
Process that removes water and dissolves substances from the blood
ADH
Controls the water absorption
Urine analysis
Microscopic study of the urine–physically and chemically
Trigon
Smooth triangular area of the bladder between the ureter and the urethra openings
Micturition
Involuntary reflex action if urinating in infants and young children
Voiding
Emptying of the bladder
Eneuresis
Involuntary urinating–usually bed wetting in someone older than expected
Catheterization
A hollow tube inserted up the urethra and into the bladder for the removal of urine
Dialysis
Artificial filtration of the blood
Anuria
Absence of urine
Oliguria
Very little amount of urine
Polguria
Unusually large amounts of urine
Urinary retention
Condition in which no urine is voided. The kidneys produce urine but the bladder is unable to be voided
Urinary suppression
When the kidneys do not produce urine
Incontinence
Involuntary voiding in an older child or adult
Neurogenic bladder
Periodic but unpredictable voiding
Dysuria
Discomfort and burning while urinating
Hydronephrosis
Enlargement of the renal pelvis and the calcyes caused by the blockage of irony by congenital problems or blockage by stones, tumors or inflammation
Renal calculi
Kidney stones
Hematuria
Blood in the urine
Urethritis
Inflammation of the urethra usually by bacteria infections such as gonorrhea or chlamydia
