Atom
The smallest basic unit of matter, or any physical substance.
Element
One particular type of atom.
Compound
A substance made of atoms of different elements bonded together in a certain ratio.
Ionic Bond
A bond formed between a positively charged ion and a negatively charged Ion.
Covalent Bond
A bond formed when atoms share a pair of electrons.
Molecule
Two or more atoms held together by covalent bonds.
Ion
An atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons
Hydrogen Bond
The positive charge from the hydrogen atom of one water molecule can attract a negative charge from another molecule.
Cohesion
The attraction among molecules of the same substance.
Adhesion
The attraction among molecules of different substances.
Solution
A mixture of that is equally mixed throughout.
Solvent
The substance that there is more of and that dissolves the other substance.
Solute
The substance that dissolves in the solvent
Acid
A compound that releases a proton when it dissolves in water.
Base
A compound that removes Hydrogen Ions from a solution.
