Couching
Ribbon or yarn stitched onto fabric, can be decorative or functional
Design breif
A document that is drawn up by the client to guide the designer in the design process
Design specification
A series of requirements which set restrictions in the designers work
Evaluation
Assessing whether each step of the design and production process works well and efficiently
Flow chart
A diagram of a production process showing where decisions are made, quality control checks are carried out and how the exit loops ensure only high quality products pass through the system
Handle
How a fabric feels eg stiff,warm ect
Interfacing
Material added to other fabrics which creates a firm finish
Lay plan
An arrangement of the pattern pieces on the fabric to ensure best use of the material
Overlap opening
Used on cushions to allow easy removal of the cushion pad
Pattern
A 2d template used to create a 3d product
Product analysis
A detailed examination of what other people have designed to understand it better
