Hortative sentence
A choice of words that encourage action.
Ex: just try it at least once
Imperative sentence
a sentence that gives the reader an instruction, makes a request, or issues a command
Periodic sentence
the main point (independent clause) occurs at the end of the sentence, after one or more side points (dependent clauses) lead up to the main point.
Cumulative sentence
a type of parallel sentence which builds through parallel constructions (dependent phrases or clauses) after a main clause.
Ex: the student sat, thinking intently
Rhetorical question
an inquiry that ends in a question mark but is asked for effect rather than to elicit an answer.
