Figurative language
Language used in a special way to create a special effect made up of words
Lyric poetry

A word that mimics a type of sounds.
Imagery
Visually descriptive or figurative language.
Metaphor
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
Personification
Giving human characteristics to animals or nonliving things.
Hyperbole
Exaggeration statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
Simile
A comparison using like or as
Idiom
Common phrases or terms whose meanings are not literal.
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound.
Consonance
Agreement or compatibility between opinions or actions
Assonance
The repetition of first sound of words that are close together.
Diamanté poem
A basic poem in a diamond shape.
Concrete poem
The shape of the things the author was writing about
