Vocab Flashcards
study for science quiz
Ecosystems-
All of the living things in an environment, including their interactions w/ each other
biotic factors-
abiotic factors-
Biotic - living things
abiotic- nonliving things
population-
all of the members in one species or area
community-
all of the living things in an ecosystem
Energy Pyramid-
diagram that shows the amount of energy available at each LEVEL of an ecosystem
Biomes-
one of earth’s largest ecosystems w/ it’s own kinds of climate that soils plants and animals
tundra-
large treeless biome, with the ground frozen all year
permafrost-
permanently frozen soil
taiga-
a cool frost biome of conifers in northern regions
tropical rain forest-
hot, humid biome near the equator
temperate rain forest-
a bunch of rain, fog, and cool climate
epiphytes-
lichens or plants such as mosses or ferns; dominate temperate rain forests
deciduous forests-
a forest biome with four distinct seasons and deciduous trees
How does energy flow through organisms
First, producers get energy from the sun. Next animals eat the energy but the producers only give 10% of their energy. Then this happens again and the animal that eats the consumer only gets ten percent of that! Eventually humans eat that animal but need to eat a bunch of food to regain their energy.
what are some characteristics of different biomes
some biomes like tropical rainforests are hot and humid whereas temperate rainforests are cold and foggy
