What is an erythroblast?
An immature red blood cell.
What is an erythrocyte?
A red blood cell.
What is hematopoiesis?
The formation of blood cells.
What is hemostasis?
The control of or stopping blood (not to be confused with homeostasis).
What is a leukocyte?
A white blood cell.
What is a macrophage?
A large eater (a monocyte once it has moved into the tissues and has been kicked into action during an immune response).
What is a monocyte?
A single cell (referring to how the large nucleus of this type of WBC; also called a macrophage )
What is a phagocyte?
An eating cell
What is a reticulocyte?
An immature red blood cell. (Different than an erythroblast; each term is a different stage In the maturation process)
What is a thrombocyte?
A clotting cell (a platelet).
What does axillary refer to?
Pertaining to the armpit.
What does cytotoxic refer to?
Pertaining to killing cells.
What does inguinal refer to?
Pertaining to the groin area.
