Campaign
An organized course of action to achieve a goal
Caucus
(In some us states) a meeting at which local members of a political party register their preference amount candidates running for office or select delegates to attend a convention
Congressional district line
Based on population within each district, taken ever 10 years, each district elects members of congress
Delegates
A person that represents a particular party and is sent to conferences
Republican
Conservative political party: one who favors more limited and local government, less government regulation of markets, and more social conformity to traditional norms and values
Democrat
Liberal political party: favors more government regulation of business and support for social welfare but less regulation of private social conduct.
Electoral college
Where the real voting takes place, each state has members represented in the electoral college based off population of the state.
Exit polls
Poll people as they are leaving a voting place, allows media to “poll” election based off questioning
Factors that influence ideology
Race, religion, gender, ethnicity, age.
Free speech
Ability to speak freely without consequences
Funding campaigns
All funds raised tor promote candidates, political parties, or policies
General election
Voting of the electors who have pledged to vote for a certain candidate.
Gerrymandering
Drawing lines between districts so one party has a better chance of winning
Malapportionment
Having districts of very unequal size
Median voter theory
A majority rule voting system will select the outcome most preferred by the median voter

Literacy tests, poll tax, white primaries, grandfather clause
multi-party system
a system in which multiple political parties across the political spectrum run for national election, and all have a similar or equal chance of gaining control of government offices.
one party system
one political party has the right to form the government, usually based on the existing constitution. All other parties are either outlawed or allowed to take only a limited and controlled participation in elections.
PACs
committee that raises and spends money on behalf of the candidate. 5000 dollar limit, but most do not spend that much.
