Nullify
to cancel or remove the power of law, treaty or legal agreement
Domestic
pertaining to a country’s policies within its own borders - “at home”
Foreign
pertaining to a country’s policies beyond its own borders - “abroad”
Alliance
an agreement, or partnership with another nation for mutual benefit
Sedition
speaking against the government AND advocating for revolution/ overthrow
Embargo
ban on the importation of certain goods from foreign countries.
Neutrality
to remain neutral; to not get involved in a conflict between two other nations
Doctrine
a policy followed by a country that dictates actions (i.e. laws) and attitudes (i.e. philosophy)

group of people that align around common policy goals and interests
Inflation
the increase in price of goods/services with a decrease in purchasing power

a tax or fee placed on an imported product to protect domestic industries

group of young frontier politicians (early 1800s) who pushed for war

an economic plan to help develop the US economy by investing in infrastructure and certain industries to promote growth
Sectionalism
division of a country into specific regions based on distinct characteristics
Secession
when a state or territory leaves (or threatens to) the mother country/nation.
