Vocab Flashcards
What unit do we use to measure resistance?
Ohms.
What creates Electrical Current?
Rate at which charge is flowing. Flow of charged particles like electrons, moving through a conductor or space.
What unit is used to measure electrical current?
Ampere or amp in SI units.
Voltage
Difference in charge between two points. Or Amount of potential energy between two points on a circuit. Or Pushing force (like water pressure) that pushes on electrons.
What is the interaction between positive and negative charges?
Attraction
Why is copper so conductive?
It has one single electron in it’s outer orbit.
What is a neutral metal?
Has same number of electrons as neutrons.
Anode
Positive lead, attaches to power. Long side of an led.
Cathode
Short lead, negative lead on LED, also physically smaller.
What does PWM stand for and what is it?
Pulse-width Modulation - technique for getting analog results with digital means. Digital can only convey on and off. Pulse-width controls fast pulses of on and off to do things like control the brightness of an LED or create sound waves.
What is a diode?
An electrical component that only lets electricity flow through it in one direction.
What are the two styles of wire?
Stranded and solid.
What is an Ultrasonic Sensor and what does it do?
Sensor that sends out a signal or ping that bounces off an object and is returned to the sensor. It is used for measuring distance.
What does it mean when a switch is Normally Open?
There is no current flowing, or the power is off. Whatever activates the switch will turn on the flow of power.
What is the outer orbit of electrons in an atom called?
Valence shell
What is measured in Amperes?
Current or coulombs per second in a circuit.
What is an ampere?
1 coulomb of electrons passing a point in 1 second is an ampere of electricity.
What is 1 coulomb?
A bunch of electrons. 6.24 x 10 to the 18th power electrons exactly.
What is the symbol for current?
I
What is the symbol for coulombs?
C
What is the symbol for ampere?
A
