Vocab Flashcards
Dominant
Trait that is expressed
Recessive
Trait which is only expressed if there are no dominant alleles present
Allele
Gene that is found on the exact same place on a chromosome
Genotype
All the different variants that could be present in a given organism.
Phenotype
Traits that are physically observable.
Co-dominance
When both unique alleles are present and form a mix of both traits
Mendel’s three laws
Law of dominance, segregation and independent assortment
Homozygous recessive
Both alleles are recessive (eg. ee)
Homozygous dominant
Both alleles are dominant (eg. EE)
Heterozygeous
One dominant allele and one recessive allele is present, but dominant allele is expressed (eg. Ee)
Dihybrid cross
Two traits that are being observed in any given organism
Monohybrid cross
A single trait that is being observed in any given organism
Sex linked traits
Traits that are specifically found on the sex chromosome (number 23)
Incomplete dominance
Two alleles that don’t completely conceal each other (eg. red+white flowers will make a pink flower in incomplete dominance.)
