Synecdoche
Use of deliberate confusion of scale, refer to one part to represent a whole.
Apostrophe
Something nonhuman is addressed as if it were alive and present and able to reply

Narrative having a second meaning beneath the surface of one
Paradox
Statement or situation containing apparently contradictory or incompatible elements but upon closer inspection might be true

Conceit
An image or metaphor likens one thing to something else that is very different
Irony
Illustrates a situation that has some kind of discrepancy but the action/situation is opposite of what is expected

Parody
Imitation of the style of another work, writer or genre, relying on deliberate exaggeration to achieve comic or satirical effect
Pun
Humorous use of a word or phrase to emphasize or suggest its different meaning or applications

Basic unit in their description of the underlying rhythm of a poem

Figure of speech in which words are used to imitate sounds
Cacophony
