Martin Luther King
MLK was a prominent african american civil rights leader that fought against racial injustice and segregation. Efforts from MLK and civil rights leaders made the civil rights movement successful and brought change.
Nelson Mandela
Nelson mandela was a civil rights leader who fought for equality and helped end south africa’s system of apartheid. Mandela fought for freedom and was the first back president of south africa.
New modes of communication
One change in the 1900s through the present is the change in ways of communication and transport. Examples of this are radio communication, the internet, cellular communication, and airplanes. These ways of communication increased globalization and made our world more interconnected.
Green Revolution
The green revolution was an agricultural revolution that increased genetically modified organisms in food that would increase production and help preserve food. The green revolution also increased the use of pesticides to help keep bugs away from food which began to make foods unhealthy and not beneficial.
Medical Innovations (vaccines and antibiotics)
After 1900 innovations in vaccines and antibiotics increased the populations longevity and allowed people to live longer healthier lives. New diseases that were associated with poverty, such as malaria and cholera, that were common in lower income populations. Diseases also occurred because of increased longevity such as azltimers and heart disease.
Covid-19 Pandemic
Covid 19 is an airborne virus that spread during the 21st century that spread through human contact and particles in the air. This virus caused lockdowns to be put into place so that the virus would not spread more.
Diseases of poverty
Diseases that were associated with lower income populations persisted and were large threats to populations. These are diseases that are threats to low-income populations that persist due to a lack of treatment funding or hospitals. (Ex. Malaria, Ebola, Cholera.)
Diseases of longevity
Due to vaccines and antibiotics that increased longevity desieases began to emerge due to people living longer. Examples of these diseases are Altzimers which is a memory based disease that causes people in old age to forget memories, and heart disease.
Causes of environmental change
Due to human activity and gathering of the worlds resources, one effect of this is environmental change such as deforestation, pollution, and increased consumption of water.
Economic Liberalization
After the end of the cold war governments began to use economic liberization for free market trade. This system was used by Ronald Reagan in the united states and Margret thatcher in the UK.
Deng Xiaoping
Deng Xiaoping was a chinese economic leader who led china through economic reforms. Deng Xiaoping became known as a capitalist leader and a military leader for the PRC.
Knowledge Economy
Knowledge economies are places that depend on the economic growth of corporations, businesses, and people. This makes the place or country more advanced and knowledgeable compared to other countries and causes people to migrate to them.
World Trade Organization (include anti- WTO protests)
The World Trade Organization is an organization that focuses on and deals with trade between nations. This organization is run by the government and uses the governments of nations to enforce the trade rules and govern international trade between nations.
Multinational Corporations
A multinational corporation is a corporation that is based in one country but primarily used around the world. Examples of this are Microsoft, Sony, and Amazon.
ASEAN
ASEAN is the Association Of Southeast Asian Nations which includes the states of southeast Asia. This corporation promotes international governing and is a economic union.
