Reconquista

A

The reconquering of Spain by Christians from the Moors in the 11th-13th century.

By the end of the 14th-century majority of the population of Seville (Spain) turned against the Jews. They were forced to convert to Christianity, many of the Jews accepted Baptism but others died rather than being converted to Christian.

Ferrant Martinez

A

Ferrant was a leading anti-Jewish agitator in Castile at the end of the 14th- century. He started riots and protested against the Jews demanding that synagogues should be destroyed. As vicar-general of the archbishop he gained jurisdiction over the Jews and demanded that they be expelled from Spain. This was stopped by King Henry ii of Castile. After multiple continuous acts against the Jews riots broke out and many Jews were forced into Baptism.
