Appellant
party who appeals a district court’s decision, usually seeking reversal of that decision
Amicus curiae
Latin- “friend of the court”. It’s advice formally offered to the court
Arraignment
A proceeding in which a criminal defendant is brought to court- asked to plead guilty or not guilty
Apelle
party who opposes an appellants appeal
Acquittal
jury verdict that a criminal defendant that is not guilty, or the finding of a judge that the evidence insufficient to support a conviction
Admissible
evidence that may be considered by jury or judge in civil and criminal cases
Active judge
judge in full time service of court. Compare to senior judge
Affidavit
written or printed statement made under oath
Alternate juror
juror selected in same manner as regular juror who hears all evidence but does not help decide the case
Appeal
request made after trial by party that lost on one or more issues
Appellate
about appeals: appellate court has the power to review judgement of a lower court
