free indirect style
conveying a character’s internal thoughts by embedding them within the narration, rather than expressing them directly

dramatic irony
when the audience or readers know more about a situation than the character does
“girl in horror film hides in closet where killer just went - audience knows killer is there but she doesn’t”
situational irony
a striking reversal of what is expected or intended

verbal irony
speakers say the opposite of what they mean and is often sarcastic in nature

theme

visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work
