Q

What is Drosophila Suzukii

A

A group of fruit fly that destroys vineyards. The issue with “Suzukii” is that their mouths can penetrate the skins of grapes. Which also leaves an entry-point for the common drosophila - as a result, many patches of vines smelled of and had grapes effected by acetic rot in 2014 due to this. Like any rot, this can be triaged-away, but given the strong smell, it anyway raises concerns about the potential for volatility in the wines that will result.
