What are vitamins?
Compounds that help regulate many vital body processes, including the digestion, absorption, and metabolism of other nutrients.
How are vitamins classified?
Vitamins are classified as either water- or fat- soluble.
How do water-soluble vitamins work?
Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and pass easily into the blood during digestion.
What are some types of water-soluble vitamins?
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) and vitamin B12
How do fat-soluble vitamins work?
Fat-soluble vitamins are absorbed, stored, and transported in fat.
Where does your body stores fat-soluble vitamins?
In your fatty tissue, liver, and kidneys.
What does the excess buildup of fat-soluble vitamins in your body do?
It can be toxic.
What are examples of fat-soluble vitamins?
Vitamin A and vitamin D.
