Q

what is the disease and symptoms associated with niacin B3 deficiency?

A

PELLAGRA

 4 D’s: Dermatitis, Diarrhea, and Dementia leading to Death

 Clinical manifestations: skin, gastrointestinal tract and the, nervous system

 Widespread cause of death until the early 20th century

 Niacin flour fortification has practically eradicated pellagra in developed countries

Q

what happens to the NADH

A

The second half of glycolysis is known as the pay-off phase, characterised by a net gain of the energy-rich molecules ATP and NADH.[2] Since glucose leads to two triose sugars in the preparatory phase, each reaction in the pay-off phase occurs twice per glucose molecule. This yields 2 NADH molecules and 4 ATP molecules.

The NADH enter the mitochondria and enter the added to the electron transport chain and usedin the production of ATP.
