Q

How to Calculate Pulse Rate

A

Count the pulse rate for 30 seconds, multiply by 2
OR
Count the pulse rate for 15 seconds, multiply by 4

  • If the pulse rate is irregular, count the pulse rate for a full minute to get an accurate reading

Condition (dry, diaphoretic, moist, clammy)

21
Q

How to Measure Capillary Refill

A

Hold the hand above the level of the heart; press on the nail bed with your fingers and then release. Count (in seconds) how long it takes the nail bed to return to pink

  • Less than 2s: adequate perfusion
  • Great than 2s: poor perfusion
