What is the proper procedure for taking a patient’s pulse?
Pulse
- Count the pulse for one full minute
- Feel for the pulse’s rhythm and force
- Report any irregular rhythms to the nurse

What is the name for low blood pressure?
Low BP = hypotension
What does systolic pressure correlate to?
Heart contration = systolic pressure (top number)
What does diastolic pressure correlate to?
Heart relaxation = Diastolic pressure (bottom number)
What is the average BP for an adult?
Average adult BP
120/80 mm Hg
What is the range for normal systolic pressure?
Normal systolic pressure
100-140 mm Hg
What is the normal range for diastolic pressure?
Normal diastolic pressure
60-90 mm Hg
What is hyperthermia?
Hyperthermia = high body temperature
What is hypothermia?
Hypothermia = low body temperature
What is the range for an older adult’s body temperature?
