Vital Signs Flashcards
stable vital signs indicate
good health / homeostasis
parameters of vital signs are
pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature
normal resting pulse rate for adult
60-100 BPM
normal resting pulse rate for child
80-100 BPM
normal resting pulse rate for toddler
100 BPM
normal resting pulse rate for infant (under one year)
100-140 BPM
normal resting pulse rate for newborn (neonate)
up to 150 BPM
pulse points of apical
over the heart
pulse points of brachial
in the elbow bend (common site for children under 1 year old)
pulse point for carotid
in the neck
pulse point for dorsalis pedis
on top of the foot
pulse point for facial
on the jaw under the mouth
pulse point for femoral
in the groin
pulse point for popliteal
on the back of the knee
pulse point for posterior tibial
on the back of the ankle
pulse point for radial
on the anterior wrist below the thumb
pulse point for temporal
on the temple
pulse point for ulnar
on the anterior wrist below the little finger
if distal pulse not found
find apical pulse
pulse deficit is
radial is slower than apical pulse
tachycardia
pulse rate over 100 BPM
bradycardia
pulse rate less than 60 BPM
when measuring respiration
don’t make patient aware or they won’t breath regularly
normal range for respiratory rate in adults
12-20 breaths per minute
